4th, 5th and 6th Grade: Unit 1

Students in Spanish 1 have been working on answering the question “¿Cómo estás?” (How are you?) with a variety of emotions. We created a story in class together using the verb estar with the emotions, then students invented their own stories.

Here is an example of a story we came up with in a 5th grade class:

Por la mañana, Lebron James está enojado (In the morning, Lebron James is mad…) because he lost his blankie.

Por la tarde, Lebron James está triste (In the afternoon, Lebron James is sad…) because he misses his mommy.

Por la noche, Lebron James está MUY triste (At night, Lebron James is VERY sad…) because he doesn’t have his blankie or his mommy.

The students had a lot of fun coming up with this story and we were able to stay almost completely in Spanish while we wrote it (except, of course, for the ‘because…’ clauses).

I have been reading the stories that each student created and, while being incredibly entertaining, they are very accurate in their use of Spanish! I will be giving them back this week. Ask your 4th, 5th or 6th grader to see theirs!
